Weekly Rundown…
An interesting week in that there a lot of "simply good" covers and VERY few excellent covers. Equally such, there's a bunch in the "Worth a 2nd Expect" department. Hither are a few boosted notes:
- No great Peach this calendar week. I know I made a few of you lot angry last week with my pick of Peach'southward Captain Marvel every bit my winner, but for the Peach fans (and in that location are nonetheless a ton of them), that was her best work in a long time. This week'due south Storm and Psylocke are skillful, but not neat.
- Due west of Sundown has a few good covers, but none make the listing.
- DC has zippo for me, this week. The Wonder Adult female Amazons Cloonan "B" embrace is okay and just squeaks into the "Worth a 2d Look" department because of the layout and color, solitary.
- Marvel has some actually good incentives, this week. Check out Spider-Punk, Strange and X-Men Crimson.
Allow's see what we practise get, shall we?…
And this week'southward winner is…
Black Widow #15a & #15b
PUBLISHED: Marvel – four/6/22
ARTIST: Adam Hughes (A) & Kaare Andrews (B)
This calendar week's winning slot is basically a necktie (although I lean toward the Hughes over the Andrews). 1 cannot possibly go wrong with either of these covers and both are amazing in their ain right. Hughes has been crushing this run and this ane may actually be my favorite then far. Every bit for the Andrews, while I detest these Gwen-themed things, it is stunning. I mean, what DON'T these two artists beat out?

RUNNERS Upward
*****
Lady Death: Cataclysmic Majesty #2c
PUBLISHED: – 4/6/22
ARTIST: David Finch
A scrap of a steep cover price for this "Premium foil edition" at $20-$25 (depending on your discount), but information technology is a gorgeous David Finch in not only a style we're not used to, simply likewise on a book we're non used to seeing him on. Incredibly sexy, dark in all the correct ways and with excellent splashes of color. I can't wait to run into this one in person (if any of my shops actually order it at all).
Scorched #4a
PUBLISHED: Epitome – 4/six/22
ARTIST: Bjorn Barends
I am going to be a broken record on these Barends covers, but this one is yet another study in how to do detail. I'one thousand not a fan of his huge-head Moon Knight coming soon, but this Scorched is incredible. Information technology is the environmental details that actually do it for me although that rifle is bad@$$, too.

STIFF COMPETITION

Apache Commitment Service #iv
(Jill Thompson – Nighttime Equus caballus – four/6/22)
I love to see a Jill Thompson cover and one that's this cool is a bonus. The depth is great and all of the Vietnam-esque groundwork elements are perfectly done. The trade wearing apparel is kind of distracting, but it doesn't mar the cover to awfully, overall.
The Cimmerian: Hour of the Dragon #2b
(Valentin Secher – Ablaze – 4/vi/22)
Looking a niggling likewise Jason Momoa, perhaps, but even so an absolute schooling on how to describe male anatomy. Fantastic lighting, brilliant rendering and an overall imposing cover with great mood. The Cimmerian minis have all had some fantastic covers even though there'south absolutely no spec with them. Check some of the older ones out for a treat. Information technology's well worth your time. At that place is a virgin incentive for this one, too. Information technology'south probably a one:ten.
Spider-Punk #1a
(Olivier Coipel – Marvel – 4/6/22)
The whole Spider Punk thing is dumb to me, merely this cover is really cool. It has that street fine art/graffiti wait to it and splendid lighting. The mental attitude of the character is on point, besides. A really impactful cover and better than the i:25 and right on par with the 1:50. I prefer this, peculiarly for $5.

WORTH A 2nd Expect
*****
I'g doing these in a lump, this week, since at that place are so many. Notes to follow the pics…
Horizon Zero Dawn: Liberation #1 [Game Art] – It'due south amazing, but I hate "Game Graphics" covers (information technology'south a lazy way out) and this is from a 1-iv "Game Fine art Pack" which is $eighteen. Worth taking a look at, but probably not ownership. Just another gimmick.
The Joneses #1a [Gallagher] – cover is simply really fun and right in-line with other AWA offerings.
Alice Ever After #1a [Panosian] – I love the concept for the Alice from BOOM! even though the execution isn't awesome. There'south a virgin incentive of this, too.
Dice!Namite Never Dies #2b [Parrillo] – The Parrillo DieNamite is disgusting and outstanding. His details always astound me. I actually love the properties on this 1, specially.
The Affair #6b [Asrar] – This Matter by almost made it college upwards on the list, but it's missing a little something. The lighting is really absurd, though.
Wonder Adult female: Historia of the Amazons #2b [Cloonan] – This Cloonan has amazing detail and color, but this concept is naught new.
